I had a bittersweet moment yesterday. I got a phone call from my insurance broker, Donal O’Sullivan from McCann Life and Pensions in Deansgrange to say that the insurance company that we had our mortgage protection with are in the process of clearing off our mortgage. The first thing I thought of was that Michael should have been here to celebrate that moment with me. All the years he worked so hard to put a roof over our heads. But then I coped on to myself and realised that this is what he would want. He’d want me to be sorted out that way. Michael hadn’t a clue about insurance. That was my end of things. He worked hard, handed me over the dosh and then I sorted us out. “Brains (his nickname for Me), ye better go down to that insurance lad in Deansgrange and sort things out cos he was up here in the garage today asking me things and I haven’t a clue”. Remember that Donal O’Sullivan? 🙂
So I did
With Donal’s help, I changed our very expensive level term policy to a much cheaper decreasing policy, took out a critical illness policy (thanks be to God for that because basically we would have been up the Creek without a paddle) and took out a small life insurance policy. all for a cheaper price than what we were paying for the old policy!!!
We were covered for all eventualities.

I know it’s a boring subject but lads it’s so so important!
Only for Donal, and his persistence in getting my ass on the seat in front of him, I could be lying here wondering am I going to have to sell our lovely little home and how would I pay for all the expenses that accumulated when poor aul Michael was sick and then died.
While Michael wouldn’t have known what on God’s earth to do if the situation was the other way around, I had it drummed into his head that if anything happened to me, he was just to call in to Donal. That’s how easy it is. Lads, please get yourselves sorted.
